Now, I'm not sure if this works with every plant, but I've gotten this to work on quite a few vegetables. At first it will look like your plant may be dying, keep in mind, this doesn't apply to all store bought vegetables. I personally prefer to use a wine glass if I can(now I'm finally getting some use out of them! lol) or in something where the vegetable won't drown in but this can sit up, so you will have to get creative. This has mainly happened with plants like collards and broccoli thus far. The most amazing results I've had so far with with broccoli, the base of a chopped onion, garlic, even a really small piece of ginger root. Once this start to grow roots, you can plant in soil.
So far, I've only used rain and bottle water for propagation. I've read and watched several youtube videos that don't promote the use of water from the faucet due to fluoride and chlorine.
I learned something#valuable from this broccoli plant that looked like it was on deaths doorstep. The day after placing this in water it went completely brown. Let's just say I was totally #discouraged that I couldn't #growbroccoli with this method or maybe I did something wrong, but something told me to leave it, and see what happens. After a week or more of it looking worse with time, I saw a little root pop out from the bottom. I was so excited over this small little#progress.
Now look at the root system! What it taught me was that sometimes things have to #die to the old to be #reborn in the new. Just because something looks grim doesnt mean #lifeisover. Things are just readjusting. Btw, this was store bought.
So next time before you throw away that onion or stem of collard greens, place it in some water, and with a lot of patience, they will grow roots.
